New York Mayor Jumps into Pool in Suit, Kicking Off Summer
New York’s first Muslim Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, officially kicked off the summer season by jumping into the Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem while wearing a suit. This move also resulted in him breaking the city’s rule. Mamdani joined dozens of children and local residents in the pool, sharing in the excitement of New York students on their last day of school, June 26.This tradition has been ongoing for years. While many previous mayors have done the same, Bill de Blasio and Eric Adams did not participate in this event. For the first time since Michael Bloomberg’s last jump in 2013, a mayor has revived this tradition. While other participants wore swimsuits and beachwear, Zohran Mamdani jumped into the pool in his usual attire - a full suit. According to the American press, this move also violated New York City’s pool rules, as the city’s regulations require everyone entering the pool to wear a swimsuit. The event served as a morale boost for New Yorkers ahead of an impending heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach 30 degrees in the coming week and possibly even higher in the following days.
