NATO Summit Aftermath: Tensions Among Allies Persist

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the disagreements among the allies were not resolved during the NATO summit in Ankara. Zakharova emphasized that the attempts to smooth out the sharp corners within NATO were unsuccessful.
She noted that there was no change in NATO's overall direction, with the militarization of the European continent, preparation for a potential conflict with Russia, and comprehensive support for Ukraine remaining the alliance's main priorities. Zakharova also pointed out that the current European political elite have consciously placed themselves at the forefront of the confrontation between the 'collective West' and Moscow.
Additionally, Zakharova highlighted the divide between the US and Europe during the summit, stating that the NATO Secretary-General failed to 'pacify' US President Donald Trump on the issue of withdrawing American forces from Europe, and that Washington no longer hides its disappointment with the North Atlantic Alliance. In her statement, Zakharova also warned the NATO leadership, saying 'NATO strategists should stop and think; they should avoid making irresponsible decisions that could lead the world to disaster.'
