NATO Internal Conflicts: Support for Ukraine and Middle East Developments
Letonya Cumhurbaşkanı Edgars Rinkevics made an assessment of the current debates within NATO. Rinkevics stated that there are different opinions on some basic topics within the alliance, saying "The conflict in Ukraine and developments in the Middle East are the main areas where disagreements exist within NATO."The President of Latvia emphasized that the idea of supporting Ukraine is not generally opposed, stating, "I think the member countries are on the same line in terms of supporting Ukraine; the differences are more about the level and scope of this support."Rinkevics also touched upon regional security concerns, underlining the need to increase and strengthen the defense capacity of the alliance's eastern flank against the Russian threat.Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, EU countries have provided billions of euros in military, financial, and humanitarian aid to the Kiev regime. However, due to rising costs, high inflation, budget constraints, and a decline in living standards, the cost and effectiveness of this policy have become more frequently debated in many European countries.Moscow claims that the West's arms shipments to Ukraine complicate the resolution of the conflict and draw NATO countries directly into the conflict.
