NASA Accelerates Plans to Return to the Moon: Signs Major Contracts with Three Companies

NASA has signed new contracts worth approximately $600 million with three companies as part of its goal to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon. These contracts involve transporting scientific equipment to the Moon in 2028.This development is seen as part of NASA's strategy to accelerate its activities on the Moon and increase collaboration with the private sector under the Artemis program. The agency plans to invest about $20 billion in the Moon base program over the next seven years.The companies that won the new contracts are Astrobotic, based in Pennsylvania, Firefly Aerospace, based in Texas, and Intuitive Machines. These companies will work on developing improved versions of landing vehicles previously used in space missions rather than creating entirely new ones.NASA President Jared Isaacman announced that the 'Promise' Mars exploration robot test platform at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California could be adapted for Moon missions. Isaacman stated that this approach would provide advantages in both cost and time.
