Two Individuals Related to Narin Gurhan Murder Case Face Trial for Firearms

Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of Narin Gurhan, had his son, Ibrahim Bahtiyar, and brother, Mehmet Bahtiyar, face trial for possession of unlicensed firearms. On April 16, during Nevzat Bahtiyar's trial, a search of the vehicles in the Diyarbakir courthouse area resulted in the discovery of two unlicensed handguns and numerous bullets in the car of the two individuals. The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakir Prosecutor's Office requests a prison sentence of between one and three years for the two defendants. The indictment states that the defendants exhibited nervous and agitated behavior when they saw the police teams and that the firearms were found in visible areas of the vehicle. Ibrahim Bahtiyar claimed that he purchased the firearms to protect himself and his family from the threats made by Narin Gurhan's family after the incident. Ibrahim Bahtiyar stated, 'I bought the handguns a year ago through a contact I made on social media because I was receiving death threats and needed to protect myself and my family.' Defendant Mehmet Bahtiyar claimed he was unaware of the firearms in the vehicle, stating, 'I was going to take my family to the village after the trial. When I saw my nephews waiting in the car, I got in and sat down. Shortly after, the police teams arrived, and we were searched. Two handguns were found, but I was not aware they were in the car.'
