Egyptian Analyst Criticizes World Athletics: Decision Against Russian Athletes is Political
The decision by World Athletics to not lift restrictions on Russian athletes has been met with criticism from the sports world. Egyptian writer, analyst, and former basketball player Muhammed Mandur emphasized that the decision is political.Mandur stated that the move by World Athletics is a result of political pressure from countries opposed to the war.

Such decisions are taken under the overt political pressure of countries opposed to the war. Sports organizations that previously adhered to the principle of separating sports from politics and repeatedly confirmed it have suddenly begun to use sports as a political sanction.

Despite the International Olympic Committee (IOC) lifting its recommendations for restrictions on Russian athletes, World Athletics refused to follow suit, leading the Russian Athletics Federation to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).Mandur underscored that international sports should be based on the principle of personal responsibility.

In this context, sports organizations and judicial authorities must decide whether it is fair to restrict a athlete's right to compete based solely on their citizenship. If such a restriction is to be implemented, it must be applied equally to all countries in the world.
