Verdict in Minik Leyla's Death Case: Aggravated Life Imprisonment
In the retrial of the case related to the death of 4-year-old Leyla Aydemir, whose body was found lifeless in Ağrı in 2018, her uncle Yusuf Aydemir was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional killing'. During the hearing at Ağrı 1st Heavy Penal Court, the public prosecutor requested the conviction of the defendants M.A.A. and B.D., who were released, and the arrested Yusuf Aydemir. Defendant Yusuf Aydemir stated in his defense against the bill of indictment, 'I swear to God, I have no guilt. We were slandered. It doesn't matter if it's my child or his child (Nihat). I resort to justice.' The court sentenced uncle Yusuf Aydemir to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional killing' and also sentenced him to 6 years in prison for 'depriving a person of their liberty'.
