Latest on Forest Fire in Milas: 1,120 People Evacuated, Aerial Operations Ongoing

The forest fire in Milas, Muğla, has been largely brought under control thanks to the intense efforts of the fire crews. With the first light of dawn, aerial operations resumed, and as a precaution, 1,120 people were evacuated from a hotel and a holiday site.The fire broke out in the Gürçamlar neighborhood of Milas, in the Bozbük area, for unknown reasons yesterday evening.Firefighters worked through the night, and with the first light of dawn, 6 helicopters and 4 planes joined the firefighting efforts. The General Directorate of Forestry announced that the fire has been largely controlled.In a statement, 'Our relentless battle throughout the night continues intensively from the air and ground with the first light of day. Our teams are working in the field to completely control the fire.'Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, who inspected the fire area, stated that the fire started at 17:03 yesterday. Akbıyık said that they fought 6 different fires in the province on the same day, and while the other 5 fires were brought under control, work continues in Milas.Akbıyık pointed out that meteorological conditions accelerated the spread of the fire, saying, 'Unfortunately, the wind direction, humidity, and terrain conditions are very effective in spreading the fire. To prevent any negativity, we evacuated a hotel and a holiday site in the region as a precaution. We evacuated a total of 1,120 citizens, 350 from the hotel and 770 from the holiday site, to safe areas. Our teams are taking necessary precautions and working to stop the fire.'
