Parliament Receives Immunity Files for Three MPs

The parliamentary immunity files of New Party Chairman Ö zgür Özel, New Party Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba, and Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Istanbul MP Sera Kadıgil have been submitted to the parliament. The presidential motions regarding the lifting of parliamentary immunity have been published on the 'Incoming Documents' list by the parliament and referred to the Joint Committee composed of members of the Constitutional and Justice Commissions. The immunity files of Özel, Ağbaba, and Kadıgil have been submitted to the Joint Committee. The fezleke process refers to the voting and decision-making process in parliament regarding the lifting of a member's immunity. The process begins with the submission of the prosecutor's report to parliament through the Ministry of Justice and the Presidency, and continues with the stages of the Joint Committee and the General Assembly. The prosecutor prepares a fezleke by collecting evidence related to the alleged crime, and the file is sent to the parliament through the Ministry of Justice and the Presidency. The parliament notifies the MPs of the incoming fezleke. The fezleke is referred to the Joint Committee composed of members of the Constitutional and Justice Commissions, and a five-member Preparation Committee is established by lot. The MP in question makes their defense in the committee or has another MP make it on their behalf. This committee completes its work within a month and submits its report to the Joint Committee. The Joint Committee discusses the report and decides on the lifting of immunity or the postponement of the prosecution until the end of the MP's term. The report is then added to the agenda of the General Assembly, and the MP makes their final defense.
