Micro Earthquake Swarm in the Marmara Sea: Expert's Critical Warning

The micro earthquake swarm in the Marmara Sea has caught the attention of earthquake scientists. Prof. Dr. Osman Bektaş stated that this activity alone is not an indicator of a large earthquake, but whether a magnitude 4 or greater earthquake occurs in the next 3 to 7 days will be a critical indicator. According to AFAD data, a micro earthquake swarm with a magnitude of less than 3.5 occurred at a depth of 6 to 9 kilometers in the Central Marmara Trough. The seismic activity in the region is being closely monitored by experts. Geology Engineer Prof. Dr. Osman Bektaş evaluated the issue, saying, "Such clusterings indicate that the stress in a certain section of the fault is being redistributed through small fractures."
