M7 Metro Line Closure: 7-Minute Journey Now Takes 35 Minutes

One of Istanbul's most used metro lines, the M7 Metro Line, remains closed due to repair work that started in April. The line's Mecidiyeköy-Nurtepe section has been shut down and its busiest stations, Çağlayan and Kağıthane, have been closed due to damage to the rails caused by groundwater. The latest developments on the reopening of the M7 Metro Line have been shared by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) officials. İBB Deputy General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin stated that a deformation occurred on the line in April due to heavy rainfall in Istanbul. Alpkökin said that the teams are continuing their work on the line and aim to complete the repairs by the end of the year, saying, 'We will work with the engineering solution we have found to finish this line as soon as possible, before the end of the year.' The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has launched free bus services to replace the closed metro line. However, the journey time has increased from 6-7 minutes to 30-35 minutes. İBB Rail Systems Department Deputy Director Erman Eryılmaz also stated that the work on the metro line is ongoing, saying, 'We are about to complete the demolition work in a 60-meter section of the deformed area.'
