KVKK to Impose Heavy Penalties on Companies for Unlawful Use of Personal Data

The Personal Data Protection Board has made a significant decision regarding the unlawful use of personal data of victims following traffic accidents. Companies and individuals who contact victims without permission will face criminal complaints to the Prosecutor's Office.The KVKK has determined that some damage consulting companies and individuals who introduce themselves as lawyers have been in contact with victims without their explicit consent. Evaluations have shown that these individuals and companies have accessed the victims' identity and contact information through unlawful means and then requested power of attorney with the promise of compensation.According to the Board's decision, companies that process personal data unlawfully will face administrative penalties. Additionally, insurance experts who share personal data with unauthorized third parties will also face legal liability.
