Radical Measure Against Heat Stroke Risk in Northern Cyprus

A significant step has been taken in Northern Cyprus to protect the health of workers due to rising temperatures. With the new regulation that will last until August 15, working outdoors and under the sun between 12:00 and 16:00 local time is banned for 10 days. This decision was made based on the weather forecast reports of the Meteorology Department. In the official statement made by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it was emphasized that this regulation was implemented to protect workers exposed to high temperatures from heat stroke, excessive fluid loss, and serious health risks. Changes were made to the work schedule for sectors that operate outdoors. Employers in the agricultural and construction sectors, which are carried out outside of residential areas, can start work earlier to ensure the job is done safely. Within the framework of flexible working hours, it was announced that the transportation and delivery times of ready-mixed concrete, construction materials, and construction equipment to construction sites can also be planned earlier by employers. Authorities have asked all employers to show the necessary sensitivity for worker health. A similar measure was taken in Northern Cyprus earlier this summer due to scorching heat. Between July 22 and August 1, a ban on outdoor work during lunch hours was also imposed due to extreme temperatures. It is stated that measures may continue based on meteorological data.
