Global Perception Shift: Decline in US Reliability Ratings
A recent survey assessing the international community's view of the US reveals a significant weakening in Washington's global image. Even among traditional US allies such as Canada, France, and Germany, there has been a notable decline in the perception of the US as a reliable partner. The Pew Research Center survey, which gathered opinions from over 42,000 participants across 36 countries, asked about the US and former President Donald Trump's policies between February 8 and May 13.The survey results show a clear weakening in the perception of the US as a "reliable partner". This trend holds true for many countries with long-standing close relationships with the US in areas like economy and security.In Canada, the percentage of participants who viewed the US as a reliable partner dropped from 83% in 2022 to 35%. During the same period, this figure decreased from 62% to 27% in France and from 83% to 39% in Germany.Assessments of the US contributing to global peace and stability have also declined significantly across many countries.The percentage of participants sharing this view in Canada decreased from 61% in 2023 to 30%. Over the same period, the figure dropped from 56% to 27% in France and from 53% to 35% in Germany.
