Cuba Faces Third Nationwide Power Outage in a Week
Cuba has faced its third nationwide power outage in a week, with authorities announcing that the national power grid has completely gone down. The energy crisis has been exacerbated by fuel shortages and aging infrastructure. The Cuban Ministry of Energy announced that after a 'total system separation' on Tuesday, electricity services began to be gradually restored. The state-owned electricity company Unión Eléctrica reported that the outage began shortly after 11:00 local time, and electricity was restored to some parts of the country later in the day. Nationwide power outages also occurred on July 6 and July 10, leaving much of the population of about 10 million in the dark. With the latest outage, the number of nationwide power outages in Cuba in 2026 has risen to five.
