Critical Energy Facilities List Released
Following US President Donald Trump's threats against Iran, the Fars News Agency, which is close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, published an analysis listing the power plants that supply electricity to US military bases in the Gulf. The analysis stated that US military bases in the Gulf are dependent on the electricity grids of the countries in which they are located, creating 'mutual strategic dependence'.The analysis included major power plants in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The Et-Tavila Power Plant in Abu Dhabi was reported to have a production capacity of 6,000 megawatts, meeting approximately 12% of the country's electricity needs and supplying energy to the US's Al Dhafra Air Base. The plants affiliated with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) have a total capacity of 9,650 megawatts, meeting approximately 85% of Dubai's electricity needs, and are the main energy source for the Al Minhad Military Base, with potential outages affecting the base's operations.
