Ebola Outbreak in Congo Intensifies: Death Toll Exceeds 700, WHO Reiterates Global Risk Warning

The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 700. According to an announcement by the country's Ministry of Communication and Media, the number of people who have lost their lives due to the outbreak has reached 702. Official statistics indicate that 1,926 confirmed Ebola cases have been identified in the country so far, while 318 people have been treated and recovered. Authorities have reported that heightened surveillance and health measures are being implemented in the provinces of Haut-Uélé, Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tshopo. Congo's Health Minister, Roger Kamba, announced that Tshopo and Haut-Uélé provinces have been officially added to the list of areas affected by the Ebola outbreak. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning to the international community due to the Ebola cases reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring Uganda. The WHO has assessed the risk of the outbreak spreading to neighboring countries as high, emphasizing the need for close monitoring due to Ebola's cross-border effects. Experts stress that early diagnosis, isolation, and contact tracing are crucial in preventing the spread of Ebola, especially in the affected regions.
