Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo Exceeds 3,000 Cases

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 3,075. So far, 556 people have recovered from the disease.According to the latest figures released by the KDC Ministry of Health, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has reached 3,075, with 1,354 fatalities. The outbreak has spread across five provinces, including Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, and Tshopo, with 556 people recovering from the disease. The outbreak was declared on May 15 after 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths were reported in the Ituri province.Health officials say the current outbreak is caused by a rare Ebola variant known as 'Bundibugyo', for which there is no approved treatment or vaccine. The Ebola virus, which causes a type of hemorrhagic fever, was first identified in 1976 in simultaneous outbreaks in Sudan's Nzara and the KDC's Yambuku.
