Colombia Earthquake Update: Death Toll and Missing Persons Numbers Revised

The death toll from the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10 has risen to 265, with 3,494 injured and 496 reported missing. The earthquake caused widespread destruction in several regions of the country. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella held a press conference at the San Carlos Palace in the capital, Bogota, to provide updates on the relief efforts. President De la Espriella announced that the number of fatalities had increased to 265, with 3,494 people injured and 496 missing. He also stated that 52,816 people were affected by the earthquake and that a red alert remains in effect in the cities of Cali, Pereira, Quibdo, Manizales, and Armenia. The National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Science reported that out of 202 bodies recovered from cities such as Manizales, Pereira, Cali, Buga, Tulua, Buenaventura, and Quibdo, the identities of 122 have been confirmed. A three-day national mourning period was declared in Colombia following the earthquake. President De la Espriella had previously announced that families who lost their homes in the disaster would receive rental assistance during his visit to Pereira, the city most affected by the earthquake.
