Death Toll Rises in Colombia After 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake

The death toll from the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia continues to rise. President Abelardo de la Espriella announced that the number of fatalities has increased to 281, with thousands more injured. As rescue efforts continue across the country, Colombia has declared a national period of mourning. Following the earthquake on August 10, rescue teams are working tirelessly. President De la Espriella shared the latest update, stating that 3,971 people have been injured and 379 remain missing. Nationwide, 127 buildings have been destroyed, 65,841 homes have been damaged, and 10,677 have been completely destroyed. During his visit to Pereira, the city most affected by the earthquake, the President announced that families who lost their homes will receive rental assistance. As the three-day national mourning period continues, rescue teams are racing against time to reach the 379 citizens still trapped under the rubble.
