Major Explosion in Qatar: 13 Killed in Gas Facility Accident

An explosion at the Barzan local gas facility in Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial Zone has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people and injured 66 others.The incident occurred on Sunday evening and caused a large fire in the area. Qatar's Ministry of Interior stated that the incident was a technical accident and not an act of sabotage or attack.Qatar's Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said that the cause of the explosion is being investigated and that there is no environmental risk. Authorities announced that production at the facility was completely halted in December 2025 for emergency maintenance work and was only resumed two days ago.Qatari authorities reported that all those who lost their lives in the explosion were citizens of India and Pakistan. The Indian Embassy in Doha also announced that it is in contact with Qatari authorities to provide support to the families of the deceased and injured.
