Construction of Kadıköy Rıhtım Mosque Begins: First Pile Driven
The construction of the Kadıköy Rıhtım Mosque, which will be able to accommodate 7,000 people at the same time, has begun in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul. The construction of the mosque started with the driving of the first pile, with plans to drive 2,100 piles. The construction of the mosque, for which 6,000 jet grouts will be driven for soil improvement, is expected to be completed within 3 years. Erol Kaya, Chairman of the Kadıköy Rıhtım Camii Yaptırma ve Yaşatma Derneği, stated that the construction work started after years of planning and legal processes. Kaya said, "The planning process, which started in 2015, and the subsequent legal processes have been clarified, thank God. We are officially starting the process of building a mosque with social and cultural facilities as a living space today." Kaya stated that the mosque will be built with 4 minarets and will include an art workshop, library, conference hall, soup kitchen, and mourning house.
