Japan Experiences 27 Aftershocks Following 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake

Following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Japan's southwestern Kyushu Island, 27 aftershocks were recorded within the first two hours. The largest aftershock measured 6.1, while the smallest was 2.1 in magnitude. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of possible strong aftershocks over the next week .Seismic activity continues in the region. According to an analysis by RIA Novosti of Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) data, a total of 27 aftershocks were recorded in the first two hours after the main earthquake .According to the data shared by the authorities, the magnitude of the aftershocks ranged from 2.1 to 6.1. The strongest aftershock occurred approximately one hour after the main shock. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Tuesday was recorded near the Kumamoto prefecture, at a depth of only 10 kilometers. Due to its shallow focus, the earthquake was felt over a wide area.A tsunami warning was issued for the coasts of Ariake Bay and Yatsushiro Bay following the earthquake. While authorities are closely monitoring the situation, no fatalities or significant damage have been reported so far. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned citizens of possible strong aftershocks over the next week in a statement following the Kyushu earthquake.
