Japan Rocked by 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake: Iwate Prefecture Hit by Latest Quake
A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan's Iwate Prefecture on Sunday morning. This latest quake comes after a series of tremors in the region, prompting authorities to urge caution without issuing a tsunami warning.The earthquake was felt at a lower 5 on Japan's 7-point seismic intensity scale in Hachinohe city, Aomori Prefecture. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the epicenter was at a depth of approximately 40 kilometers. The quake follows a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit northern Japan just a few days ago.JMA had warned of possible strong aftershocks for about a week after the previous quake. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated on social media that she has instructed officials to determine the extent of the damage and inform the public promptly, acknowledging the frequent occurrence of earthquakes in the Iwate region.Takaichi also said, 'I know the residents are having anxious days, but I ask them to be cautious and not let their guard down.'
