Japan and Taiwan on High Alert: Two Typhoons Approach
Japan and Taiwan are on high alert as two typhoons, Mekkhala and Higos, approach the region. Heavy rainfall and flood risks have prompted evacuations in some areas.The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that Typhoon Mekkhala is expected to approach the Pacific coast, while Typhoon Higos is heading north. In Taiwan, heavy rainfall has been reported in the capital Taipei and southern regions.Some roads in Taiwan have been flooded, and public institutions and schools in Pingtung have been closed. In the eastern region of Hualien, over 200 people are to be evacuated due to the risk of a dam overflowing.The Japan Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that hundreds of thousands of people in western and southwestern prefectures have been affected by evacuation orders. Heavy rainfall may cause production halts in some factories, and train and flight cancellations are possible.
