A 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Off Japan's Iwate Prefecture

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Japan's Iwate prefecture. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located off the coast of Iwate prefecture, 55 kilometers east of the Noda region.The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.9 and a depth of 37.2 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued. Japan has been experiencing earthquakes in various regions recently. Just a few days ago, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Iwate prefecture.On Japan's 7-level seismic intensity scale, the earthquake was felt at a lower 5 in Hachinohe city, Aomori prefecture. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of approximately 40 kilometers.Before this earthquake in Iwate, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake had occurred in northern Japan. The JMA warned that strong aftershocks could occur for about a week after that earthquake.
