Anti-Corruption Operation in Izmit Municipality: 31 People Detained

As part of an anti-corruption investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a simultaneous operation was launched in 5 provinces regarding allegations of irregularities and bribery in the Izmit Municipality. The operation targets 31 individuals, including Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband. The investigation involves allegations of irregularities, bribery, and corruption in tenders organized by the municipality. According to the examination by the Public Prosecutor's Office, the companies that won the tenders and the other companies that submitted bids have familial relationships with the municipality officials. Additionally, it is claimed that usurious money was taken from companies that did business with the municipality. A comprehensive investigation was launched regarding the allegations of irregularities in the tenders organized by the Izmit Municipality. The list of 31 people who were issued detention orders includes high-level municipal officials and businessmen. The detained individuals include Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, her husband Murat Hürriyet, Bekaş General Manager Ömer Akın, CHP Izmit District Chairman Gökhan Ercan, and Lawyer Selin Evren Özoğlu.
