Date Announced for Vice President Election in İzmit Municipality

The vice president election for İzmit Municipality will be held on July 30, following the removal of Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet from her position by the Ministry of Interior.According to the statement from the Kocaeli Governor's Office, Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet was removed from her position due to an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the İzmit Municipal Council will convene on July 30 at 15:00 to elect a new vice president.The vice president election will be conducted by the first deputy chairman of the İzmit Municipal Council until the election is completed.An investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations of irregularities in some tenders carried out by İzmit Municipality.As part of this investigation, 31 suspects, including İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet and her husband Murat Hürriyet, were issued with detention orders for 'forming an organization for the purpose of committing a crime', 'bribery', and 'manipulating tenders', and 20 of the suspects were arrested in simultaneous operations.
