Who Became the Deputy Mayor of Izmit?

After the arrest and removal of Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, a deputy mayor election was held.The Izmit Municipal Council convened for an extraordinary meeting to determine the deputy mayor. At the meeting, CHP's Lütfü Obuz and the candidate of the People's Alliance, Hayrettin Ünlü, competed.In the first round, Lütfü Obuz received 21 votes, while Hayrettin Ünlü received 13 votes, and 3 votes were deemed invalid. In the second round, Obuz received 21 votes, and Ünlü received 15 votes, with 1 vote being invalid.Since neither candidate achieved the required two-thirds majority in the first two rounds, the election proceeded to a third round, where a simple majority was sought. In the final round, Lütfü Obuz, who received 22 votes, outperformed his opponent Hayrettin Ünlü, who received 15 votes, and was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Izmit.
