Bribery Scandal in Izmir: Deputy Director and Clerk Sentenced to Prison

A verdict has been reached in the trial of Y.D., a deputy director, and B.B., a clerk, who were accused of accepting bribes in exchange for prioritizing a case file in Izmir. At the hearing in the Izmir 1st Heavy Penal Court, the public prosecutor requested that the defendants be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison for 'accepting bribes'. The defendants' lawyers argued that there was no concrete evidence to support the claims of bribery. Y.D.'s lawyer stated that the incident did not occur as alleged, while B.B.'s lawyer claimed that his client did not gain any benefit and did not cause any harm to the public. The court initially sentenced the defendants to 6 years in prison under the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code, but later reduced the sentences to 2 years and 6 months after applying discounts.
