Death of Entrepreneur in Italy Sparks Anti-Police Protests

A recent incident in Bologna, Italy, where Moroccan-born entrepreneur Abderrahim Fakir died during a police intervention, has led to protests. According to Italian media, police were called to the Pilastro area of Bologna due to a report of a person causing damage to a vehicle. The police attempted to subdue Fakir, using pepper spray and taking him to the ground, before trying to handcuff him. Footage recorded by a local resident shows 42-year-old Fakir being held face-down on the ground by two police officers. Fakir can be heard repeatedly calling for help, before eventually becoming unresponsive. The police then bound Fakir's feet, and medical teams later checked his vital signs. It was also reported that Fakir had a heart condition and asthma. Following the release of the footage, hundreds of people took to the streets in Bologna to protest. Demonstrators carried banners calling for 'justice and truth for Fakir', while chanting anti-police slogans. An investigation has been launched into Fakir's death. The Bologna police have announced that they will provide footage from the body cameras of the officers involved to the investigating authorities.
