Istanbul's Dams Are at Alarm Levels: Water Level Drops Below 50%

The water level in Istanbul's dams has dropped to alarm levels due to decreased rainfall and increased water consumption during the summer. According to the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the water level in the dams has been decreasing due to the lack of rainfall, hot weather, and increased water consumption during the summer months. The dams had reached their highest water level of the year, at 72.05%, on May 11, but the water level has now dropped below 50%, to 49.94%. Experts state that when looking at the dam water levels over the past 10 years, this year's level of 49.94% is the third lowest, following 2023's 33.81% and 2025's 47.32%. Professor Hüseyin Toros from the Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) emphasizes the need to reduce daily water consumption in the city, stating that the most economical solution is to use water efficiently.
