Dense Fog Alert in Istanbul: Ferry Services Canceled, Bosphorus Traffic Halted

A dense fog that started to affect Istanbul in the early morning hours has negatively impacted transportation across the city. As visibility dropped to just a few meters in the Bosphorus area and higher elevations, the Istanbul Bosphorus shipping traffic was temporarily halted due to the fog.According to an announcement by the Coastal Safety General Directorate, security measures were increased to the highest level due to near-zero visibility. International transit ship passages were also suspended. It was stated that the situation of the ships waiting in the Bosphorus would be evaluated according to the dispersion of the fog.Although general services were attempted to be maintained on city sea routes, Sirkeci-Harem car ferry services were temporarily canceled as a precaution. The City Lines announced that some flights would not be made due to adverse weather conditions (fog). Drivers are also experiencing difficulties on land, especially on routes close to the Bosphorus and viaducts, due to low visibility.
