When Will the Spring Semester End for Universities in Istanbul?

The 2027 European Games will be held in Istanbul, resulting in changes to the academic calendars of universities. The spring semesters of universities in Istanbul will end a month early due to the 2027 European Games. The decision, made at the request of the Higher Education Council, will result in the academic year ending about a month earlier than the normal schedule. This arrangement will only apply to the 2026-2027 academic year and will be implemented provided that the education quality is maintained without interruption. The 14-week semester will be reduced to 12 weeks. To ensure the completion of the curriculum, the start of the fall semester was brought forward in some schools. Istanbul Bilgi University updated its academic calendar and moved the start of the 2026-2027 Academic Year Fall Semester and classes one week earlier.
