New Tensions in Israel: National Security Minister Enters Al-Aqsa Mosque
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, under police protection. This move coincided with the Jewish day of mourning, Tisha B'Av. Ben-Gvir stated, 'On Tisha B'Av, we mourn the destruction. However, we also see great progress on the Temple Mount. Look at what's happening here. Jews are praying, feeling like the owners of this place. This has never happened before.' The Israeli police tightened security at the gates of Al-Aqsa and around the Old City, preventing Muslims from entering for prayer. According to Israeli sources, at least 1,300 people entered the area. Palestinian sources claim that this entry disrupted Muslim worship.
