Spain Experiences Extreme Heat: 'Exceptional Danger' Warning in Some Areas

Spain has issued an 'exceptional danger' warning in some areas due to extreme heat. Temperatures have exceeded 44 degrees in some regions. The coastal areas of Valencia and Alicante have seen temperatures rise above 42 degrees. In Vega del Segura and Valle del Guadalentin, Lorca and Aguilas, temperatures have reached 44 degrees and above. These regions have been placed under 'exceptional danger' and the highest level 'red' heat warning. The Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands have been issued an 'orange' warning due to temperatures between 39 and 42 degrees. The Ministry of Health has urged citizens to take precautions against the heat, drink water, and assist those in need. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated on social media that over 100,000 hectares have been destroyed in 22 major fires this year. Sanchez noted that the annual average of burned areas in the last decade is roughly equivalent to this magnitude. The Spanish government has mobilized all necessary resources to combat the fires, and Sanchez called on all political forces to focus on the common enemy: the climate emergency.
