Spain Warns on Ceuta and Melilla Entries: No Free Movement in Europe

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that immigrants entering the country through Ceuta and Melilla, Spanish territories in North Africa, will not have the right to free movement in Europe or to enter mainland Spain. The Ministry stated that entering Spain through these territories does not grant the right to stay in the country, move to the mainland, or enjoy free movement within the Schengen area.Those who reach Spain through this route will not be allowed to stay in the country or move freely within the Schengen zone. The statement also emphasized that attempting to cross the border illegally poses serious risks to life.The Ministry referred to a recent decision by the Spanish Supreme Court, which clarified the procedure for individuals arriving by sea, without changing the Immigration Law. The Ministry reiterated that the only way to enter Spain is through legal channels.The statement noted that security measures at the Spanish-Moroccan border are ongoing. The 500-meter floating barrier at the Tarajal border crossing has been reinforced in line with the court's decision, and almost all of the irregular migrants who crossed the border on July 30 were returned to Morocco.
