Iran Planned to Retaliate Against Ukraine
Following Ukraine's attack on an Iranian trade ship, Tehran considered retaliating by targeting a Ukrainian port, but diplomatic efforts eased tensions.On July 25, Ukraine's attack resulted in the death of one Iranian sailor and the injury of another. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the incident as a military attack.According to a report in the US media, citing Iranian and Western officials, the Tehran administration considered launching a ballistic missile with a small warhead at Ukraine or targeting one of the ports in the Black Sea. However, intense diplomatic efforts have calmed the situation for now.Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi held a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrey Sibiha, emphasizing the need for compensation for the damage caused by the attack. Sibiha stated that the attack was not intentional and that the Kiev administration did not want to escalate tensions.
