Rare Natural Phenomenon in Iran: Mud Volcano Erupts

A rare natural phenomenon has occurred in Iran. The Bender Teng mud volcano, triggered by monsoon winds, has become active again in the city of Kunarek, Iran. The activation of the volcano is of great importance for nature tourism in the region. The mud volcano is directly related to the underground natural gas and oil fields. The compacted sedimentary layers in the depths of the earth's crust, under high tectonic pressure, melt the fine-grained material above them, forming a semi-liquid mud. As the pressure increases, this mixture erupts through cracks and fissures in the earth's crust. This rare natural phenomenon in Iran once again highlights the importance of mud volcanoes.
