Iran Rejects Oman’s Hormuz Strait Initiative: 'Uncoordinated Passage is Dangerous'

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy categorically rejected Oman's announcement of a temporary maritime corridor in the Hormuz Strait. Iranian authorities emphasized that passage through the strait can only be made through routes designated by Iran, and that ships must coordinate with Iranian authorities prior to passage.The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy stated that the announcement of a new passage route by some parties without any coordination with Iran is unacceptable.Iran declared that the only valid routes in the Hormuz Strait are those designated by themselves. It was emphasized that ships must not move outside of these routes, and that all ships wishing to pass through must coordinate with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy through Channel 16.The Omani Ministry of Transport had previously announced that they were working on a temporary maritime corridor option in the Hormuz Strait and were coordinating with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
