Turkey-Iran Border Strengthened with 6 Kilometer Steel Wall

As part of the ongoing security wall construction efforts along the Turkey-Iran border, a 6-kilometer section in the Başkale district has been reinforced with a modular steel wall system for the first time. In this 6-kilometer section, a modular steel wall system consisting of a 1-meter concrete base, 5 meters of steel profile, and 90 centimeters of barbed wire was applied. The 305-kilometer security wall project, which started in 2021 and covers the districts of Çaldıran, Özalp, Saray, and Başkale, has completed 235 kilometers. Work continues in the final 70-kilometer section of the Başkale border. In this area, concrete wall construction works are ongoing, with concrete blocks produced in a nearby quarry being transported to work areas by heavy machinery and installed in designated locations despite challenging terrain conditions. Security elements along the border are supported by electro-optical and elevator-based surveillance towers, thermal cameras, radar systems, and advanced sensors. Border units operating in rugged terrain conduct reconnaissance and surveillance activities using unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, and remotely controlled autonomous ground vehicles. Photo trap systems placed in areas with culverts detect potential crossings in real-time. A multi-layered defense system is also used against air-based threats along the border. The border area, where drone defense systems, air defense guns, and turret-mounted armored personnel carriers are deployed against UAVs, drones, and paramotors, also has sharpshooter teams and commando units stationed at critical points.
