The Cost of the Iran War on American Households

The Iran war has brought an average of $1000 in additional costs to every American household through direct and indirect means. Increases in fuel, food, interest, and ticket prices, as well as extra taxes paid to the government, have raised the cost of the Iran war to American households to $1000. The total war bill for taxpayers so far has reached $113.3 billion, while the Pentagon has requested a record $1.5 trillion defense budget for the 2027 fiscal year. Upon examining the cost breakdown; $300 per household came from gasoline expenses, with fuel prices rising to $4.56 per gallon during the war. The increase in diesel fuel costs also added an average of $200 to family budgets through higher food prices. The war-induced interest rate hikes added $150 in extra costs for Americans, while the surge in jet fuel prices translated to an additional $100 per family in air ticket prices. Another significant burden on citizens came directly from tax expenditures, accounting for $250 of the total extra cost, with taxpayers financing the war to the tune of approximately $50 million per day.
