US Troop Withdrawal from Iraq: A New Era Begins

The US troops in Iraq are expected to be completely withdrawn by September 30. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi described the date as 'fixed and final'. The withdrawal of US troops and military equipment from Erbil began about three weeks ago.The US military presence in Iraq, which began with the invasion of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003, is coming to an end. Under the agreement reached by Washington and Baghdad in 2024, the US-led anti-DAESH military mission is planned to be terminated and forces withdrawn from the country. US troops withdrew from most of Iraq last year, but maintained their presence in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government in the north.
