Massive Scam Under the Guise of Internet Infrastructure Change: 90 Suspects Caught
A simultaneous operation was conducted in 19 provinces based in Eskişehir. In this operation, suspects who introduced themselves as representatives of corporate internet and communication companies and directed citizens to buy modems under the pretext of 'internet infrastructure change' were caught. The suspects' method involved telling citizens that the internet infrastructure would change, the existing modems would not be usable, and the internet services would be cut off shortly. They also claimed that a mandatory infrastructure transition would be made and that buying a new modem would result in a discount on internet bills. Using this method, they allegedly defrauded 801 people of approximately 116 million lira. In the study conducted by the police teams, it was determined that most of the modems sent were not compatible with the existing internet infrastructure and that the promised internet bill discounts were not applied. It was found that the victims sent a total of approximately 116 million lira to the suspects' accounts. In the operations, 90 suspects were caught and many assets were seized.
