Mosque Attacks Occur Almost Every 5 Days in the UK Over Four Months
A report published by the British Muslim Trust (BMT), which tracks anti-Muslim hate crimes in the UK, found that mosques were attacked almost every 5 days between July and October 2025. The report confirmed 27 anti-Muslim hate incidents targeting mosques and Muslim community centers across the country during this period. In these incidents, 25 different mosques were directly affected. The attacks occurred in 23 cities and towns, with repeated or clustered targeting of mosques in areas such as Wirral, Epsom, and Watford. According to the report, approximately every 5 days, a mosque was attacked in the UK between July and October 2025. In 41% of these attacks, crosses, UK flags, St. George flags, or Christian symbols and slogans were used for intimidation purposes. 26% of the incidents involved violence, including damage to windows, assaults, and arson. The report noted that the attacks escalated from isolated vandalism to coordinated symbolic intimidation and violent attacks between July and October. There was also an increase in arson and repeated targeting incidents. For many Muslims, these incidents are experienced as harassment, exploitation, and intimidation due to their faith, rather than random vandalism or legitimate patriotism. The BMT called for faster and stronger support from local police, councils, and authorities for victims and communities affected by mosque attacks, the establishment of rapid response protocols for hate crimes against mosques, and increased information sharing among authorities.
