Yargıtay Rules on the Invalidity of İnan Kıraç's Marriage

The Court of Cassation has made its final decision regarding the annulment of businessman İnan Kıraç's marriage to Emine Alangoya, upholding the local court and appeal court's ruling that the marriage is legally invalid. As a result, İnan Kıraç's marriage has been deemed legally invalid. The process began with a lawsuit filed by Kıraç's daughter, İpek Kıraç, claiming that her father lacked the capacity to consent to the marriage. A report by the Forensic Medicine Institute stated that Kıraç lacked the capacity to consent and that a guardian should be appointed for him. The court first appointed a temporary guardian, then a permanent one. The 18th Family Court of Anatolia ruled on July 18, 2025, that Kıraç lacked the mental capacity to discern at the time of the marriage and therefore did not have the legal capacity to marry. The Court of Cassation upheld the previous courts' decisions, rendering the marriage definitively invalid. Thus, the lawsuit has concluded with the Court of Cassation's decision. The 38th Law Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice also rejected the appeals, stating that the local court had evaluated all the evidence in accordance with the procedure and that it had been determined that Kıraç lacked the capacity to discern and the legal capacity to marry at the time of the marriage.
