Driver Appears in Court for Accident That Killed Twins and Their Cousins

The driver, Melis K., who was involved in an accident in Mersin in February that resulted in the deaths of 15-year-old twins Kübra Güney and Büşra Güney and their cousins Nejla Öztürk and Zehra Serdil Atak, appeared in court for the first time. The driver claimed that her vehicle lost control after coming into contact with a truck's tire. The families of the victims described the incident as a 'mass murder' and demanded the harshest punishment for the driver. Melis K. stated that a truck had committed a lane violation and her vehicle had come into contact with its right tire. After losing control of the vehicle, she claimed that she swerved into the refuge and the airbags deployed, and she was in shock and did not see the pedestrians until later.
