Commercial Ship Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz Increases

Following the easing of tensions between the US and Iran, commercial ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has increased by more than 50% over the past week. The Strait of Hormuz was once a major trade route with an average of 130 commercial ships passing through it daily before the outbreak of war in the Middle East. However, with the start of the war, traffic came to a near standstill. Recent data shows that 223 commercial ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz between June 15-21. This translates to an average of 32 commercial ships per day. The lowest traffic was recorded on June 15 with 18 ships, while the highest traffic was recorded on June 20 with 50 ships. Between June 22-28, 343 commercial ships passed through the strait. The average daily traffic for this period was 49 commercial ships, with the lowest traffic recorded on June 28 with 24 ships, and the highest traffic recorded on June 24 with 76 ships. The data also shows that yesterday, 40 ships passed through the strait, carrying at least 6 million barrels of crude oil.
