Oil Flow Through Strait of Hormuz Reaches 9 Million Barrels

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that the daily average oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz has reached 9 million barrels. Wright also stated that, combined with other export routes in the region, the total oil flow is around 15 million barrels per day.The US Energy Information Administration reported that the oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz decreased by 4.4 times in the second quarter of 2026, dropping to an average of 4.9 million barrels per day compared to the pre-conflict average of 21.6 million barrels per day.

The seven-day average of oil flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz is now around 9 million barrels per day. When combined with an additional 5-7 million barrels of oil coming out of the region through newly modernized pipelines and export facilities, the total oil flow is now around 15 million barrels per day

Wright noted that more than 20 million barrels of oil are being shipped from the Arabian Gulf region alone, exceeding the pre-conflict average. In early August, US President Donald Trump announced that he would halt attacks on Iran in light of the upcoming peace agreement, which includes the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear program agreements.
