Hormuz Strait Tensions: New Fluctuations in Oil Prices
The Hormuz Strait has once again become a focal point of tension affecting global oil markets. New sanction and penalty proposals that emerged during negotiations between Iran and Oman have heightened concerns over supply security, driving Brent oil futures to their highest level in recent weeks. The talks between Iran and Oman have introduced new conditions and legislative proposals for the opening of the strait to commercial traffic, exacerbating concerns over global supply security. In response, Brent oil futures contracts gained 1.2% in value, reaching $83.48 per barrel. US crude oil (WTI) also saw a 1.1% increase, trading at $78.84. The primary factor behind this surge is a new legislative proposal drafted by a commission in the Iranian Parliament. The Iranian administration plans to completely ban maritime vessels from the US, Israel, and other nations deemed "hostile" from passing through the strait. Vessels that violate these rules may face hefty fines equivalent to up to 20% of their cargo.
